The movie is adapted from the book 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee.
The story takes place in Maycomb, a small American town in the 1960's. Maycomb is a quiet, sleepy town where the people are mostly farmers and labourers. The streets are usually deserted and there are not many facilities around except at the main town.
The main characters in the scene are Scout, her brother Jem and their domestic maid, Calpurnia and their father, Atticus, a lawyer, and Sheriff Tate, the town police.
In this scene, the children have a frightening encounter with a mad dog near their house. They then witness their father, Atticus shoot the dog with one shot and are amazed by his ability.

The children saw a thing that came towards them. It's probably a dog that is lost, but it also seems retarded as it kept jumping around.

Based on what we see in the movie, the shots taken shown the expressions of the characters, for example the nanny, clearly. Hence, it was easy to see what they were planning to do in their minds and what they are thinking.
I would start the first scene with people running away from that mad dog who is trying to bit others.

A woman looking at the mad dog with a worried facial expression. Fears the mad dog might come to the house.
